After working through the set questions and finally releasing the man from his restraints, he collapsed before you. Hefting him to his feet, you manage to assist him over to an armchair and fetch him a glass of water. Before too long, the man has slipped into troubled slumber. He looks drained. The look of a man who has not slept in weeks, and likely also malnourished. A complete contrast to the person that you saw bound in the chair. While you wait for the man to rise, you wander round the laboratory. Part work space, part lived in, you can see that your first task will be clearing and organising the scattered inventory and half-constructed experiments. You know that so long as they are far off, you are safe from the beast. This relief is quickly countered by worry for the well-being of your friend. You make your way down the side of the hill till you find the river. Then, as instructed, you follow it down a ways towards the meeting place. The pace is slow, and slows more as the darkness swallows the woodland. You decide to stop and sleep high in a tree before continuing your journey the following morning. As the sun breaches the top of the trees, you find the split in the river that was designated as the meeting place. There, on the rocks before you, lies the naked form of your friend. Late one night, you are locking up the animals in the barn when you hear a noise in the nearby brush. Grabbing a nearby pitchfork, you investigate, only to discover it is the creature that you have grown fond of from the mountain. He hurriedly whispers that you need to come with him. Though his voice is rushed, he does not take his eyes from the Pitchfork. You quickly return the farm tool and allow the creature to lead the way into the forest and up the mountain. You are very familiar with this wilderness, but in the fall of night, the forest feels somewhat alien to you, and you have to be careful not to get lost as the creature quickens his pace in the darkness. The forest soon starts to incline, and as you climb the mountain, you notice that the creature is taking you into unfamiliar territory, pulling you further from the village than you have ever been before. The stranger you found in the Dragon's lair has shaken your faith in this being an easy job. Realising that this quest may be a larger job than you initially expected, you request the aid of other adventurers. A group of mostly trustworthy mercenaries, following on the promise of Dragon gold, has agreed to come with you to stake out the lair. This makes you uneasy. You work alone for a reason. You have seen the treachery caused by the corruption of treasure too many times, and this hoard is larger than any you have seen before. You console yourself to worry about that once the Dragon has been dealt with. Though you cannot help yourself identify the most likely candidates that may turn on you once the battle is won. Even in all your research about him, you didn't even realise that this venue was in his portfolio. You put on something that makes you feel good and make your way to the club. When you arrive, you show the door staff your invitation, and the reaction you receive is one of wide-eyed surprise. They swiftly let you in and escort you up to a private room. Through the glass door, you see Nobel sitting in a room that is glass on all sides, overlooking the main room of this high-end club. The Age of Industry and Science has commenced in Britain. You have slaved away at your studies, proving your worth, gaining qualification after qualification... and yet now that you have graduated, you discover that the hurdles that were set before you in education maintain their resilience in searching for work. You put yourself forward for every scientific job that you can find, yet at every turn, you find that you don't have the right parents, or family, or class. It seems your pedigree is more important than your intelligence and your achievements. That was until a friend sent you a letter with the details of a Dr Jekyll. A scientist of some renown who had somehow fallen out of favour with the Royal Colleges. It was reported that the Doctor was in desperate need of a good laboratory assistant whilst doing "top secret research". You are unsure where he was getting his funding, as the pay he is offering is far above average, but desperation won out over your apprehension, and you apply for the position. Your companion guides you through the rocky wooded wilderness of the mountainside. The journey is difficult, and you are pretty sure that you have passed the same points multiple times. Given what happened to his last home, you do not blame him for being precautious, however it does make you a little sad that his trust in you has been shaken. After what feels like an unreasonable amount of time, you spot a flash of colour in the distance. Wooden boards painted in garish colours stand out against the flat grey mountainside.
