Dragged from your room out into the rain, you are manhandled through the industrial district towards the docks. You can feel the fear of the situation creeping in at the edges of your consciousness, but for now your scientific logical mind maintains control. As instructed, you manage to pack a bundle of spare clothes, some of the Doctor's notes on the situation, and a handful of writing implements to record your observations. Much as the situation is extremely unsettling, you are grateful that this opportunity will provide some valuable observations for your research into the situation... if you survive the experience. Hyde is eager to get to the docks as soon as possible. You wonder whether he can feel the change coming, unlike his softer counterpart. A few more days have passed. The hunter seems to be going in cycles of unfounded hatred and zealotry, only to have a moment of sensibility, then to return to vile accusations. After a certain point, you loose patience and decide that the only way to convince this disagreeable man that your cause is just, is to show him the effect of the blight on the wilderness. His focus on the purity of human souls is all encompassing, but maybe, just maybe, if he can physically see that it isn't just the humans that are being affected, he will realise that you are not the enemy. You set out an search the woodland. Alone at first. The journey with this vile man will be difficult enough without also needing to search for a good example of the blight. You can feel that something is off in the wilderness. Like the evil has pervaded the atmosphere itself. At last you discover an area far enough from the human settlements, and yet still devastated by the blight. The destruction is overwhelming. You feel the sorrow deep in your soul. It has been a fortnight since Lucas Nobel gifted you with his blood. The taste of that blood was like any other blood. You would not have been able to differentiate it from cutting your finger and soothing the wound in your mouth. However, the effects after a few short moments were evident. It wasn't like any narcotic. No sense of delusion. It simply felt as if you were the healthiest and happiest you had ever been. A euphoria that felt more natural than synthetic. You feel more alert, more robust, more (for lack of a better term) alive. The days passed, and the effects did not seem to diminish. You wonder how long they will last. You receive a message requesting your presence. A few days have passed since you found the doctor in the abandoned house. You can tell that the experience has shaken him. He keeps demanding to be strapped into the chair, saying that he can feel the change upon him, then looking confused when nothing happens. He is not sleeping, and with each day that passes, he becomes more and more agitated. More and more confused. He swears that it has never been this long between changes. Not since the early days of this manifestation. The Doctor's lack of sleep also affects your own. Part from worry for your employer, partly from how he interrupts your sleep demanding to be restrained. It's all behind you. The town, the people, their judgmental stares, their ostracization. They never made you feel as if you belonged, and at the same time, never made you feel like you could leave. You lived in a strange limbo that you only noticed now that you have broken free of it. You are filled with mixed feelings. You have turned your back on all that you know, run off with not only a stranger but a creature said to be a monster, and yet you feel strangely calm. Content. Free. You wake in a cave on the beach. The creature is nowhere to be seen, but there is a freshly tended campfire burning in front of you. You are not worried. The creature tears itself free from the form you once called friend. You have not seen the transformation from man to beast before. Bestial claws tearing at clothing and flesh alike. Clumps of skin cast aside displaying the dense fur that lays beneath. At first the inhuman beast bites and claws at the cramped bars of the cage, then turns and stares directly at you. Fear rises in your chest as the creature's lip curls back over his teeth. In a blur, you feel the teeth sink into your thigh before you even perceive it move. It pulls at your leg, and then pauses. A softness enters it's eyes. The huge canine head releases your leg, briefly licks at the wound it has caused, and then curls up at the other end of the cage wagon. The world starts to spin, and you grip on consciousness loosens. When you awake, you are in a cold an damp stone cell. You left the hunter to his grumbling. His constant hostility was exhausting, and you had much to do. Though you are convinced that in order to track down whomever it was that was causing the blight, you would need this hunter's help. His skills and abilities in hunting your kind will be invaluable in this, but you really wish that you could do with without his incessant complaints. Leaving him a few days to cool off may temper his fury. You decide to journey to see how far the blight has spread. You know, thanks to the hunter's presence, that the local farmland has been effected, but it is hard to locate it's origins. As you journey, you note how it has encroached into the woodland. The fragile ground flowers are the first to succumb, but the signs are showing that it is starting to effect the steadfast trees. After the monster that resides within the doctor's psyche escapes, you take a moment to consider how close you came to death. This part of him, this evil manifestation, is known to have killed without prejudice, and yet, for some reason, he let you live. You quickly tend to the minor wounds he gave you, retrieve the weapon gifted to you by the doctor, and set out into the rain after him. The laboratory being placed within the industrial district means that there aren't likely to be many people around at this hour. That being said, the path of destruction the man leaves is easy to follow. The speed and the tenacity with which one man can cause so much damage is actually impressive. Eventually, you track him down to an abandoned house between several factories and warehouses. With pistol drawn you enter the house and search room by room.
